Why ceramics
For me ceramics, apart from being my modus vivendi, is my way of life. I have seen nothing closer to me than ceramics.
I was born in a house with a family of singers and therefore what I saw around me from a young age was clay, clay, jugs and everything related to ceramics. So pottery for me is almost everything. It's my way of life, the way I understand life, my way of expressing myself, all of this.
Influences
My influences are very diverse. I like everything, therefore, I do not have a clear and unique reference. I like functional ceramics, I like artistic ceramics, I like mural ceramics, I like traditional ceramics, I like the most current or contemporary ceramics.
Therefore, I like everything and I like, above all, research. Then my influences are very diverse, very varied, very eclectic, much of everything.
Now, at the moment I start making ceramics, I like functional ceramics more, although I do not rule out doing different things of more artistic ceramics, of more mural ceramics, as I have always worked from commissions, the orders are those that have marked me in some way what I had to do. But if I feel closer to the problem or to what represents the most functional ceramics.
The ceramist in contemporary society
It is difficult to answer because, willingly or unintentionally, my knowledge of the influence of ceramics is determined by the context of Verdú, which is what I move in. And therefore, in my context of Verdú, ceramics have little influence, or a slight influence.
If we expand the range and broaden our gaze, I suppose that ceramics is increasingly entering the artistic world, which until a few years ago the artistic world was painting and sculpture and today ceramics already has its recognition. Ceramics is a tradition that we almost bring to our DNA because it comes from far beyond.
From prehistory and, therefore, it is something that will always be linked to man. In addition, the fact of a very manual technique always has something attractive to people close to ceramics and not so close.
Future of ceramics
We're answering the other way around. The future of ceramics I hope that it will at least remain as it is now or that more and more people may be able to assess it in its full extent. Not only when we think about ceramics, we always think about the world of art, but ceramics is so wide that they cover many ways of understanding it.
Well, in all these ways of understanding it, I hope that everything will be better.
As for my personal aspect, well, I can go on working as I have done all these years. No more and no less. That the recognition of Verdú ceramics can be increasing and little more.
