Description
Topic: Elaboration of a pitcher.
Elements: In this mural, we can see a Potter working on the wheel while making a pitcher, the traditional armchair of Verdú. This mural is located on the facade of a house, and through it the daily activity that took place there for years is projected outwards. Verdú earthenware pieces are known for the optimal quality of the clay. The property of refreshing drinking water has always made the armchair very popular.
Style: Realist. The stonemason has portrayed himself.
Context
Ordered: Private initiative.
Historical context: Potter working on the wheel or wheel, which used to work with the foot. The grinding wheel turned the tree and on top of it the plate, it was the support where the mason worked. The structure of the lathe contained the essentials with just the right space for the sink, the scalfeta, the spouts, also a lot of slime. The set of the lathe also included a bench for the potter to sit on while turning and a footstool to support one of the feet.
Curiosities: The first documented stonemason was Antoni Guash, from La Selva del Camp. In the 18th century, the Confraternity of Sant Hipòlit was established, with around thirty workers.
