Description
Topic: Poster announcing the space of black ceramics.
Elements: These letters announce to us what we can visit in this space on Carrer de Sant Miquel. Cal Berlí is a traditional ceramics space that was in operation until 2010. The mural is composed through different elements; in the background we see a black armchair represented in the center, while at the edges the black ceramic pieces were disintegrated. Above are the letters; Cal Berlí, the name of the house of the Font family, former owners of the space. Josep Font, espai de la ceramica negra are the letters that just complement what is behind the door. It is a space through which you can trace the making of a pitcher, from the clay pot to the typical armchair for drinking water, all articulated around an era from which we can enjoy an exceptional panorama . Cal Berlí is a space of memory for the black earthenware of Verdú, in which a rich artisanal heritage is preserved.
Style: Realist.
Context
Ordered: City Council of Verdú.
Historical context: Cal Berlí is located on Carrer de Sant Miquel, also called Carrer dels Cantirers because from the 17th-18th centuries they began to settle there, going outside the walled enclosure and setting up workshops and ovens further away from the population center for in order to avoid the risk of fire. Years ago, this street had been almost entirely occupied by potters, the windows of the workshops remain as witnesses. The low windows allow the mason to work in shifts while facing the street.
